April Ross
April Ross was one of the few female beach volleyball players who have won medals during more than one Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian and will join her at Tokyo. Ross aims to earn an Olympic debut gold, however, she also hopes to win more. Perhaps this is her only opportunity, given that she is 39 years old. But she's convinced that the top awards are in reach. Ross was mentioned by NBC Boston as saying that if you play your highest, and even do well, we'll get the gold. Also, it's a matter of chance. Ross was born in the city of Costa Mesa, California in 1982. Her parents and sister lived there. In addition to playing in numerous sports, Ross also attended Newport Harbor High School. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball, as well as basketball as well as track and running. But she stood out at this level. Her college biography states that she was an outside-hitting hitter middle blocker, as well as a setter in her volleyball playing career during high school. Thanks to her hard work she was named in 1999 as the Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. She also was awarded her the Orange County Athlete of the Year award in volleyball. Ross and Klineman may be working on a project at the beginning of 2017, but Ross had already been a seasoned player at the beach before they joined forces. Actually Ross has won a number of major tournaments in her career along with her two teammates. One of them is a volleyball legend. The pair teamed with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's coach. Along with Kessy, Ross won a World Title in 2009 when she competed internationally. At the 2012 Olympic Games, they received a gold medal. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team and Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor after she had retired. The duo won the bronze medal in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in 2016. After high school and many years before hitting the beach as a professional Ross balled out to the Trojans at USC while an collegiate. Ross's Trojans experience was remarkable. As a freshmen in 2000, her play earned her the Pac-10 as well as NCAA Freshman-of-the-Year honors. The team also saw her help in helping the Trojans get to their first Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she was devastated by a personal setback, but she was able to be a second All-American. The last two years in the Trojans' program the team was led to victories by winning successive national titles. The individual accomplishments of her have established her status as a legend in volleyball. Ross was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the best female college player. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross didn't get to witness Ross become the highest beach volleyball levels. As of 2001, when Ross was in her sophomore year in USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. But she still keeps her mother in her heart. And Margie continues to be an encouragement for her on the beach and in her daily life.
