April Ross
April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball athletes who earned medals in multiple Olympics. Alix klineman, who is competing for the first time at the Tokyo Olympics is hoping to secure her third gold medal. Ross aims to earn her Olympic debut gold, however, she also hopes to earn greater. At 39, this could be Ross' last opportunity to claim the gold medal at an Olympics. She remains optimistic that she can achieve top honors. Ross was reported on NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your highest, and even perform well, you will win the gold. Therefore, I'm hoping to have a little bit of luck as well. Ross born August 22nd, 1982 in Costa Mesa California. She resided there together with her parents. Ross went on to play in a myriad of sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Being a pre-athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. However, she was a standout at this level. In her own biography, during high school she was a volleyball player as an outside setter (middle blocker) as well as a setting (outside blocker). Her efforts were recognized by her being named 1999 Gatorade's National Circle of Champions Players of the Year. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross and Klineman are doing what they do since 2017. The reality is that Ross played a significant role on the beach volleyball circuit before the pairing. She's won big tournaments twice with different partners. The other has become an icon in the world of volleyball. From 2007 until 2013 she played by Jennifer Kessy, who is now her coach. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the international circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 with each other. The duo would go through to take home a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games at London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team along with Kerri Jennings took home the gold. Ross Jennings replaced May-Treanor as she left the team. The pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college player at USC Trojans prior to beginning her pro career. She played in high school, as well as before hitting the beach as a professional. The time she spent at USC was one to remember. As a freshman in 2000 she earned Pac-10 and NCAA The Freshman of the Year awards and was also an All-American. She also helped her Trojans to reach the Final Four. In her sophomore season, she experienced a terrible personal tragedy, but was able to be named an All-American. During her final two seasons as a member of the Trojans in the program, she led them to victory by winning consecutive national championships. In her own way Ross established her status in the history books by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This prize was awarded to the top female college volleyball players across the United States. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Sadly, Ross mom Margie was not able to witness Ross rise to the highest levels of beach volleyball fame. When Ross was a sophomore in USC her mother died of breast cancer. Ross holds her mother close to her heart. Margie is a source of inspiration, both off and on of the beach.
