April Ross
April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball athletes who have won medals in multiple Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll be aiming to win her third gold medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. Ross's goal is to win her first Olympic Gold. And at the age of 39 this may be her last chance to do so. She remains optimistic that she will be able to win top awards. Ross said on NBC Boston: "If we try our best, and even playing well, I think we could be able to win gold." Also, I am going be relying on a little bit of luck. Ross was born August 22, 1982, at Costa Mesa California. She resided there together with her parents. Ross was a competitive athlete in a variety of sports while attending Newport Harbor High School. Her prep athletic career included indoor volleyball along with basketball as well as track and running. But she stood out during this game. According to her biography, she was an outside blocker as well as a middle hitter on the volleyball court during her high-school career. The results of her efforts were acknowledged in 1999 when she was named Gatorade's Circle of Champions National players of the year. She also captured the 1999 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman formed their partnership in 2017, However, Ross was a beach scene celebrity for a long time prior to. She has won numerous events, and one was won by the legendary player of volleyball. She teamed up with Jennifer Kessy from 2007-2013, and was also Klineman's personal trainer. Kessy was Ross's teammate at the 2009 World Championships. They eventually won a silver medal at the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor won gold, overtaking them. Ross became Walsh Jennings new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. Together, they won beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics in the year the year 2016. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC after her high school days. The Trojans were a few years away from when Ross went to the sand and turned professional. Ross's time in the Trojans was impressive. As a freshman in 2000 she earned Pac-10 and NCAA The Freshman of the Year honors and earned an All-American. In 2000, her Trojans were also able to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss in her sophomore season, but she still repeated as an All-American. Over the course of her final two seasons, she took the Trojans to the top of the mountain and won consecutive national titles. In her own way she established herself as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the best female college volleyball players in the United States. Ross studied International Relations at USC. Unfortunately Ross mom Margie never got to see Ross's daughter reach the highest levels of beach volleyball superstardom. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast in 2001. Ross had just become sophomore at USC. She is devoted to her late parent. Margie remains an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
