April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball players who have earned medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix Klineman is a new Olympian who will be joining the team in Tokyo. Ross hopes to win her Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes for more. This may be the last opportunity she gets at age 39. Still confident nevertheless. Ross was mentioned on NBC Boston as saying that if you play your best, even if you play well we will get the gold. So I'm going to take some luck also. Ross born in 1982, and grew up within Costa Mesa California with her siblings and parents, started participating in sports at the Newport Harbor High School. Ross went on to play in a myriad of sports at Newport Harbor High School. In her time as a college athlete she played indoor track and volleyball. In her final game she was clearly the standout. As per her biography, during high school she played volleyball as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). She was named one of the Gatorade National Circle of Champions Player of the Year in 1999 due to her accomplishments. Also, in 2000 she was named Orange County Athlete of the Yr for volleyball. Ross and Klineman started their relationship in 2017 however, Ross had been a beach-scene player for years prior to. She's won big competitions with different players. A couple of those has become an icon in the volleyball world. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years between 2007 and 2013. Also, she coached Klineman and herself. Alongside Kessy Ross was an ace on the international circuit winning the world championship in 2009. In 2012, the duo took silver in London's Olympic Games. Misty May Treanor and Kerri Jennings, the legend team who won the 2012 Olympic Games in London, beat their opponents to claim the gold. Ross Jennings was the replacement for May-Treanor as she retired. Together, they won bronze medals in beach volleyball for the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross was a player for the Trojans at USC during her college years after she graduated in high school. Her time at USC was impressive. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman as well as NCAA Freshman Of The Year. She was also named an All-American. In addition, she helped her Trojans to make it to the Final Four. The Trojans suffered a significant personal loss in her sophomore, yet was able to achieve the All-American award. Over the course of her final two seasons, she took the Trojans up the mountain and clinched consecutive national championships. As an individual, she established herself as an all-time legend by winning the 2003-2004 Honda Sports Award as the nation's top female collegiate volleyball player. Ross majored in the field of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not get to see Ross reach beach volleyball's highest levels. Ross suffered the loss of the breast cancer that she battled in the year 2001. Ross was then a sophomore. Ross holds her mother very dearly. Margie is a beach lover as well as in her everyday life, continues to inspire her.
