April Ross
April Ross is only one of only a handful of beach volleyball athletes to win medals more than once at an Olympics. Alix-Klineman will be competing with Ross at Tokyo to win her third gold medal over the coming days. But more than that, Ross is aiming to capture her very first Olympic gold. There is a chance that it is her last chance at winning, as she's 39 old. She's certain that the top prizes are within reach. Ross was quoted in NBC Boston as saying that when you perform at your very highest, and even do well, we'll get the gold. "I'm planning to test some luck." Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she lived with her parents as well as a her sister. While at Newport Harbor High School, she was a participant in many activities. She was a basketball player and also ran track, in addition to her indoor volleyball achievements in her time as a college athlete. Although she was a pro in indoor volleyball however, it was evident that her skills were above the average. In her time at high school, she was a middle blocker outside hitter and setter in the court for volleyball, according to her college bio. She was named the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999, for her performance. She also captured the 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Award for volleyball. Ross and Klineman are performing their roles since the year 2017. However, Ross was a major player in the world of beach volleyball before joining the duo. Actually, Ross has won several important tournaments throughout her career with two partners. One of them is a volleyball legend. Jennifer Kessy was her partner during six years from 2007 to 2013. Also, she coached Klineman as well as herself. Ross, Kessy's fellow teammate who was the winner of the world championship alongside Kessy in 2009, was also a major force on international stage. This duo went through to take home a silver medal in the 2012 Olympic Games at London. The legendary Misty Maytreanor team and Kerri Jennings took home the gold. The fate of the matter was that Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner when May-Treanor retired. They both won beach volleyball bronze for the Rio Olympics in the year the year 2016. Ross was a college athlete at USC Trojans prior to beginning starting her professional career. She was a player in high school, as well as before hitting the beach professionally. She had a great run during her time in the NCAA tournament. As a freshmen in 2000 Her performance was rewarded with the Pac-10 and NCAA the Freshman of the Year award. She also helped the Trojans reach into the Final Four. Her sophomore year was the time she was devastated by a personal loss but still managed to repeat as an All-American. The two years following her, she took the Trojans up the mountain and won consecutive national titles. In her own way, she cemented her place as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. This award was given to the most outstanding female college volleyball players in the United States. Ross majored in international relations at USC. Margie Ross was never able to witness her daughter's climb to the beach volleyball spotlight. In 2001 when Ross was in her sophomore year at USC her mother passed away due to breast cancer. In the aftermath, Ross continues to be close to her parent who died. Margie is an inspiration both on and off of the beach.
