April Ross
April Ross is only one of the beach volleyball players to have won medals more than once at an Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to net her third medal along with the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. More than that though Ross hopes to win the first Olympic gold. In fact, at 39, this could be her last opportunity to accomplish this. However, she is certain of taking top honors. Ross was mentioned on NBC Boston as saying that If you put in your highest, and even play well we will get the gold. "I'm also going to try to have a bit of luck." Ross was a Californian born in the city of Costa Mesa in 1982. She lived here with her mother, father and younger sister. Her athletic career continued at Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of sports. As a pre-schooler she played basketball, indoor volleyball and track. She was definitely the best at the sport of indoor volleyball. In her time at high school, she played middle blocker outside setter and hitter in the court for volleyball as per her bio at the college. The award was presented to her as by the Gatorade National Circle of Champions player of the year in 1999, for her performance. The 2000 Orange County Athlete of the Month award was also won by her due to her volleyball skills. Ross and Klineman have been continuing to play since the year 2017. However, Ross was an important player on the beach volleyball circuit before the pairing. She has had the chance to win numerous events, one of which was with an iconic volleyball player. In the period 2007-2013 she played with Jennifer Kessy who more recently was Klineman's coach. Ross, the teammate of Kessy's, who was the winner of the world championship together with Kessy in 2009, also was a major force on world stage. In the 2012 Olympic Games, they were awarded the gold medal. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the trio to beat for the gold. Ross Jennings was May-Treanor's replacement when she retired. In 2016, the pair took bronze at the Rio Olympics for beach volleyball. Ross was a college player at USC Trojans prior to beginning her pro career. She played during high school, and even some years before she hit the beaches as a professional. And her run in the Trojans' ranks was an impressive one. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year when she was a teen freshman. She also helped the Trojans reach the Final Four. She suffered a devastating personal loss in her sophomore year and yet she went on to repeat as an All-American. Through her last two years in the program she led the Trojans towards the top of the mountain by winning two consecutive national championships. Ross was an excellent volleyball player, winning the Honda Sports Award in 2003-04 as the top female college volleyball player. Ross was a student of the study of international relations in USC. Margie Ross did not get to witness Ross achieve beach volleyball's top level. In 2001 when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother passed away from breast cancer. She continues to cherish her parents who passed away. Margie has inspired her throughout her life, as well as on the beaches.
