April Ross

April Ross was one of only a few women beach volleyball stars who won medals in more than one Olympics. She is set to compete in Tokyo for her 3rd Olympic gold medal along with Alix Klineman, a first time Olympian. Ross is hoping to secure her Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes for even more. With her age of 39, this may be her final opportunity to claim the gold medal at an Olympics. She's certain that the top prizes can be achieved. Ross was mentioned on NBC Boston as saying that if you play your best, even if you play well we will get the gold. In addition, I'll try the chance to have luck. Ross was born in California in Costa Mesa in 1982. She lived here with her father, mother and younger sister. Ross played in numerous sports during her time at Newport Harbor High School. Being a pre-athlete she was also a participant in indoor track and volleyball. Although she was a pro at indoor volleyball, it was clear that her performance was above average. Through her high school years, she was a middle blocker outside hitter and setter at the tennis court, according to her college bio. Gatorade Circle of Champions named her as the National Player in 1999. Also, in 2000 she was named Orange County Athlete of the Year for volleyball. Ross Klineman and Ross may be working on a project in the year 2017, however Ross was already an established player at the beach before they came together. The fact is, she's had numerous big wins and one of them was a renowned volleyball player. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 to 2013. Kessy was Ross's teammate at the World Championships in 2009. The pair eventually picked up an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. Misty Maytreanor (Jennings) as well as Misty Maytreanor clinched gold beating them to it. The fate of the matter was that Ross turned out to be Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. They took home the bronze medal in beach volleyball at Rio Olympics 2016. Ross started her college professional career playing for the Trojans of USC following her high school days. It was a long time before Ross hit the sand and turned professional. Her experience at USC was awe-inspiring. In 2000, she was voted Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and NCAA Freshman of the Year and an All-American. Her performance also assisted in helping the Trojans reach into the Final Four. During her sophomore year she experienced a devastating personal setback but managed to repeat as an All-American. The two years following her she led the Trojans up the mountain and took home consecutive national championships. In 2003-04, Ross was named the best female volleyball player at a collegiate level in America by the Honda Sports Award. Ross majored in International Relations at USC. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, never had the privilege of watching her daughter become the beach volleyball's biggest star. Ross's mother passed away from cancer of the breast when she was a sophomore in USC. She is devoted to her mother who died. Margie, on the beach as well as in her everyday life, is still a source of inspiration for her.
